It's 2022 and you know what that means! 2020 part 2!
Just kidding. I really hope this year is nothing like 2020.
It’s a new year which means you should expect to be asked the number one most popular question during this time: what are your new years resolutions?
Now I know resolutions are scary because it adds so much pressure to think about what you want to do this year and even more pressure to actually fulfilling everything you wanna do this year. So instead, I decided that instead of a list of resolutions, I would make a list of anti-resolutions, aka what NOT to do this year. (Some might say it's the same thing. But it makes sense in my head!) So here are a list of my anti-resolutions!
This year, DO NOT…
1. Take on more than you can handle
My mental health was rocky last year and I experienced an upward spike of mental breakdowns because I ended up taking on more than I could handle. I said more "yesses" than"no's" even though I really didn't have much more in me to give. I don't exactly know where this comes from but I like to think it's tied with my humanly desire to please others. Also something I should probably work on.
2. Put so much pressure on yourself to succeed all the time
*starts singing "Nobody's Perfect" by Hannah Montana in her head* I tend to put tons of pressure on myself to always do everything right that I forget that I am human and that I must make mistakes. And so this year as I get closer to graduation, I really hope I can dial down on the internal "sabboteur"as Rupaul Charles would say (where my Drag Race fans at?) and remember to take a chill pill. Here's to making more mistakes in 2022!
3. Forget about those who you started with!
I made a lot of new friends last year from my new church which is great! But it also meant becoming distant from my old friends from a different friend group. I always made sure I never took for granted the people in my life. However it seems that I have. I had been so focused on meeting people and hanging out with new friends that I'm afraid I have left out those who had been with me since the beginning. People come and go in your life so it's more important now than ever to treasure those who have stayed.
4. Neglect time with Jesus!
I saved this for last because this is the one that truly needs work. Having found a community last year where I can grow in Christ, I have neglected the beauty in those moments that you have alone with Him. And so this year I don't want to have God as the 4th or 5th thing on my mind as He should be the first! God pours on so many blessings to us each year that we as Christians owe it to Him to worship His kingdom every second of every day.
To those who actually made it through this list, THANK YOU! I hope you can join me in this journey of keeping myself accountable.
And like I said, new year resolutions can be hard. So instead of thinking of all the things you need to and should do this year, try thinking of things you don't want to do anymore in 2022. And if your heart calls for it, feel free to share them down below with me! All anti-resolutions are welcome and will be kept private :)
Thank you for reading and hope to catch you next time :)
